Habitat for Humanity Dedicates 14th Home
Submitted by AaronDiffenbaugh on Tue, 09/29/2009 - 04:59.Ridgecrest, Calif. -
At noon on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, Habitat for Humanity will dedicate its 14th house at 1133 West Boston, which was built for Tina Turner and her four children. The Salvation Army will provide refreshments and participate in the dedication ceremony, since Mrs. Turner is an employee there. The Ridgecrest community is invited to attend the dedication.
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian housing organization. The mission of Habitat is to eliminate poverty housing. Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses, with the help of the homeowner partner families, the donated labor of construction, committee and office volunteers, and the support of partner organizations, and donations of people like you.
Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest 500 hours of their own labor — sweat equity — into building their Habitat house and other projects to further the Habitat mission.
Homeowner families are chosen according to their need, their ability to repay the no-profit, no-interest mortgage, and their willingness to work in partnership with Habitat.
Bud Shull, Jim Netzer, Gary Charlon, and John Morrow founded our local affiliate, Habitat for Humanity of the Indian Wells Valley, in 2000. To date, 11 other partner families besides Turner are Habitat homeowners. Our current efforts include two other projects, one where the home is nearing completion and one where the land is cleared.
We still need volunteers and finances to finish building the 13th Habitat house at 918 W. Oregon.
We need your help to continue serving deserving families. Please support our efforts with your labor and dollars. No building experience is required. We will teach you on the job. Volunteers must be 16 or older.
Habitat is a United Way organization. For additional information, call the Habitat office at 446-4151or e-mail us at hfhiwv@iwvisp.com. Please visit our local web site at www.habitat.org or the Habitat for Humanity International site at www.habitat.org.
Tax deductible donations may be mailed to HFH IWV, P.0. Box 2134, Ridgecrest, CA 93556-2134.
